Step 1 Pre-reading

T: Everyone knows that China has launched Chang’e I into space. That’s really exciting. It can help us to know more about Moon. Have you ever thought of living on Moon or some other planets ? We are used to living on Earth, but some people are thinking about moving to other planets. Why ? Let’s look at some pictures first. (PPT)

1. Lead-in

T: What can you find from the pictures?

―What problems does Earth have ?

T: The pictures show that Earth has two problems: one is the large population ( It’s crowded), the other is the serious pollution ( It’s polluted).

T: Now Earth is crowed and polluted. What shall we do? Some scientists say there is a better world―Mars. (PPT) Do you know the planet Mars? And before we start to read the article Mars. Let’s have a look at these new words first.

Present the picture of Mars and a spacecraft.

Say: How can we travel to Mars? (we can travel to Mars by space craft.)

Say: Spacecrafts are too slow to take so many people to Mars at the moment. But by the year 2100, we can travel there by space shuttles. Space shuttles

2. Pre-reading

T: Boys and girls, how much do you know about Mars? Do you its color, its size and some other information? Now let me show you my research on Mars. (PPT)

1) The color of Mars: red ;

2) The size: about one-half the diameter of Earth;

3) Location: It’s between Earth and Jupiter in our solar system.

4) Its moons: Phobos and Deimos

5) Surface: The surface of Mars is a little like the surface of Earth.

People can easily float because of the low-gravity. So they wear special boots to make themselves heavier. People can live in domes. Have you ever thought of living on Mars? Will it better to live on Mars than on earth?

There’s no pollution on Mars. We can live in domes and we’ll have more rooms. Maybe we will meet aliens there. Some of them may be friendly but some will not.

Step 1. Lead-in

Daniel is going to watch a TV programme. On the programme, people will discuss what it might be like to live on Mars.

Step 2. Listen and write

First listen to the passage and help Daniel make notes in Part A about if he wants to live on Mars.

Now listen to the second part of the TV programme, and try to find out all the information you need to complete Daniel’s lists in Part A2.

1. Tell students that producing a flow chart is a useful way to organize their ideas, particularly when they want to write about more than one idea. A flow chart can help students see how different ideas fit together. This will help make their piece of writing more organized.

2. Explain the context in Part A. Daniel is planning to write a guide to Mars. Review “float, laser, low-gravity” and “pollution”.

Step 4 practice

1. Ask the students to complete the chart using the phrases from the box. Point out to them that each category (main idea) is a different colour, so they should be careful to put the phrases (the details) in the correct categories. For weaker classes, Ss can complete the chart in pairs. For stronger classes, ask students to complete the chart on their own.

2. Ask 5 students to read out the points for the five categories. Ask students to think of two or three extra items they can add to the chart.

3. Ask students to fill in the blanks in Part B, page 20 with the information from the flow chart on Page 19.Remind the students that some word and phrases that they fill in the blanks may not be exactly the same as those in the flow chart. Encourage them to make changes wherever necessary. Students can work in pairs to finish it.

4. Ask 6students to each read one paragraph. Check for mistakes and mispronunciation.

Step 5 activity

1. Brainstorm with the Ss to give them some more ideas about things that could be different on another planet.

Ask students to volunteer this information. Some examples are:

Step 6 Practice

1. Encourage the students to produce a flow chart using the ideas in the brainstorming session or any new ideas they can think of. Remind students that they do not have write about Mars. They can write about any other planet, including imaginary planets. If they decide to write about one of the planets in our solar system, encourage them to do some research and find out a little bit more about that planet on the Internet or in the library.

2. Tell the students that they should first write down all the main ideas they want to include in their guides. Then they should think of details to support each main idea.

3. When Ss have completed their charts, ask them to write a guide to their chosen planet using the information in the chart. Remind the Ss to organize their writing, e.g. to stick to one idea per paragraph. Also encourage them to decorate or illustrate their writing so that it looks more attractive.

Step I 导入

1、教师请学生四人一组讨论总结本单元所学内容的语法,讨论结束后请一名学生陈述。

2、教师补充说明,并请学生再次归纳。

Step II 练习

1、解释A部分语境。Simon非常想去太空,他梦到自己要出发了。

2、要求学生通读气泡中的对话。然后让他们用学过的语法补全句子。

3、检查答案。让六名学生大声朗读对话,听听有无错误和不正确的发音。要求学生检查自己的答案并把分数写在“爪子”上。

Step III 练习

1、告诉学生,他们必须把B部分的字母重新排序,组成正确的单词。

2、让学生不看本单元前面的内容,尽量拼写出正确的单词。写完后,让他们看第12页的词汇部分。除了plant, oxygen和robot, B部分所有单词都可以在第12页查到。

Step IV 活动

让学生画出他们想象中的样子。

I believe that life in the future will be very exciting. I think that living on Mars or a different planet would be much better than living on Earth.

We will wear helmets to help us breathe and special boots to keep us on the ground. We will have special teachers and will learn everything at home. I know that lots of students would like that!
