Unit 3 Looking good, feeling good
1st period Welcome to the Unit
Ⅰ? Teaching aims:
(1) Make students pay attention to their health, and how to keep healthy.
(2) Get the Ss to improve oral English by talking about the pictures.
Ⅱ? Important points & difficult points:
(1) Students are expected to express their own opinions by comparing the importance of beauty and health.
(2) To set up a correct attitude towards beauty
(3) Encourage students to speak freely.
Ⅲ? Teaching methods:
1. Activity approach
2. Questions-centred approach
3. Discussion method
Ⅴ? Teaching Aids:
1. A multimedia.
2. A blackboard.
Ⅳ?Teaching Procedure:
Step 1 Lead-in
(1) Let the students enjoy some pictures about some beauties and some handsome young men. Then activate students' imagination by asking the following questions:
a. Are these movie stars good-looking? Are they very famous?
b. Are the young men very handsome?
c. Do you want to be as beautiful and attractive as them?
(2) Some questions about yourself:
a. Are you particular about your appearance?
b. Do you think appearance plays an important part in your life?
Step 2 Presentation
After we discussed the above questions. six other pictures for you to think about and talk about.
a. Do you think the people in the pictures look good and feel good?
b. What do you think is more important, looking good or feeling good?
Step 3 Talk about the pictures and practice
1. Ss look at the four pictures and discuss the questions with their partner.
Ask: Can you imagine a situation that fits each picture?
2. Ask Ss to invent a situation that fits the upper left picture first and then invent other situations that fit the other pictures.
Step4 Talk about questions on P41
1. Try to answer the following questions:
a. Do you think looking good is as important as feeling good?
b. If you do think the two aspects are of equal importance, can
you tell me how a person can both look good and feel good?
(confident, physically healthy, mentally healthy, exercise
regularly, healthy diet , proper dress )
2. Ss work in groups, discuss the three questions listed under the
pictures:
(1) Do you think we can change our appearance by wearing different clothes?
(2) Which do you think is more important, eating well or doing exercises?
(3) What do you do to keep yourself looking good and feeling good?
3. Some advice to keep healthy:
(Don’t eat junk food. Try and eat a healthy diet/ Have good
eating habits/ Go to bed early and get up early. Make sure that
you get enough sleep./ Get regular exercise/ Go to see the
doctor if you’re not feeling well/ Don’t spend too much time
using computers or watching TV)

1. Find more information about how to keep fit.
